Well, this book definitely took me the whole month to get through, but it was definitely worth it! This book is separated into three parts, one for each “food giant”. All three sections are full of examples from huge food companies like Coca Cola, General Foods, Kraft, and others. It’s also full of research about how food affects the body, how advertising affect decisions, and how the food industry has affected specific demographics.
Most of the information about sugar wasn’t very surprising, but the section on fat was full of information that I didn’t know. I also appreciated that the book wasn’t full of the opinion of the author, Michael Moss. Instead, he went to many of the researchers, previous CEOs, etc. to talk to them in person about the part they played in the processed food industry.
While most people understand that processed food is awful for them, this book spells out exactly what sugar, salt, and fat do to the body that makes this kind of food so unhealthy. This is a must-read for anyone who is concerned about the consumption of processed food and obesity in America.
I’m not sure what this month’s read is going to be yet, so I guess it’ll just be a surprise!
