Lisbon, Portugal: Week 1

Sorry about the late post, this past week has been crazy busy! As some of you may know, I am in Lisbon shadowing doctors for the next couple weeks until June 17, so every week I will post about some of the things I did and share the pictures I took. Be sure to check out my Instagram if you want to see all the delicious food I’ve been eating!

So my flight got in on Sunday, so the rest of the day was spent recuperating and meeting my roommates. We are staying at Upon Lisbon, a brand-new residence located a short metro ride away from downtown. There isn’t a whole lot to do in the area, but everything is really close by various transportation, and there are plenty of cute little pastelerias at every corner!

Monday was when we went as a group to see the hospital where we’re shadowing, the Hospital de Santa Maria. It is the biggest in the area and is easy to get lost (speaking from experience)! After a short hospital orientation, we had group dinner at O Zezere down the street from our residence.

The rest of the week was spent either at the hospital (I was shadowing ophthalmology), shopping at the mall Colombo nearby, or exploring downtown. Also, I made sure to try the pastel de nata, a must-eat custard pastry that is famous in Lisbon. Most of the pictures at the end of this post are from this Wednesday when we had a walking tour of downtown Lisbon, which was definitely the highlight of the week. I’ll go into more detail about specific tourist-y locations in later posts when I go to visit them again, so for now enjoy the pictures I have so far!
